RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

The tubes are separate pieces. The lower tube inserts into the lower receiver hole where you then line up holes and insert 5/8" pin. It is the lower tube that was not drilled correctly. That aligns with what I was thinking, but if you loosen the straps, can you not get enough play to align the lower pin? Then, tighten the straps that hold the tubes together. We never even connected the two tubes together. We simple inserted the lower tube by itself and the hole did not align.

I think the tubes can move independently. Maybe it got bumped in shipping if I'm right. The tubes are separate pieces. The lower tube inserts into the lower receiver hole where you then line up holes and insert 5/8" pin. It is the lower tube that was not drilled correctly.

RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

I wanted to share a couple of pics of the TL Super Truss 36" LOWER support bar. The 5/8" hitch pin hole was drilled incorrectly. The hitch pin hole was approximately 5/16" off center on one side. This is poor quality control and should be embarassing for TL. Contacted them and sent pics. Awaiting a response. https://i.imgur.com/m1L00nGl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7n1uun3l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tVlxjaXl.jpg

RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

I do understand about perhaps not needing a 36" extension. The boat coupler would be too close to bottom of camper bumper with less than 36". My friend does not want the ball connection under the camper bumper. Concern would be up driveways at angles that are steep could cause trailer coupler/tongue to hit camper bumper. Plus, the added length will assist when launching boat. Grit dog.....I do read all that are assisting in productive manners.....not just what I want to hear!! Your responses are not always productive. All other responses are appreciated and have been productive.

This is an example of my setup. Class 5 hitch 41" stinger. Cinched down to take out the extra movement. https://i.imgur.com/NrkCFMZl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/t5qIrz9l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FTwdFsBl.jpg My friends set up is very similar...he has a camper bumper that adds distance between hitch and rear edge of bumper.

I think the OP said the measurement was from the hitch to the outside of the bumper . Exactly!

RE: Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

When your tanks get low on propane you will also find there is an odor of gas. Tanks are full.

RE: Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

Did you leave the pilot light in the oven on? If it goes out it will still be releasing propane. Pilot extinguishes when oven is turned off.

go check your battey, when they run out of water they smell BAD. They are maintenance free. Smell is inside trailer. Maintenance free can smell to high heaven when they fail. How are they checked? They are about one year old.

RE: Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

Your factory installed propane alarm is designed to be very sensitive, if still functional. It should work better than your nose! Often times an RV furnace, or oven will give off an odor, when new, or when not used for a lengthy time. This will go away with use. If only running for 5-10 minutes, it may smell again next time. You can purchase a small propane gas detector, that will fit in hard to reach areas. They are not expensive, google will help you. Jerry Propane alarm is new last week. Ordered a small pencil type propane sniffer. I will run all appliances and heater a couple of more times and see if odor stops lingering around.

RE: Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

Whenever we use the propane oven, my wife thinks we have a propane leak. What she is smelling is the odor of the burned propane. We have that discussion every time. That could be what happened.

Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?

I am going through testing all trailer systems...refer on propane, heater, stove, oven. Two days ago I switched refer over to propane to let it run on propane and see if it would get colder than when on 120V. It did not. It actually was 1-2 degrees warmer! I tested stove, oven, and furnace (lighting and letting them run for 5-10 mins) and then shutting them off. I left the refer on propane overnight. Yesterday, there is a gas odor inside the trailer. Not sure where it is coming from....stove, furnace, or refer....all of these were run on propane for testing. I thought maybe it was residual gas smell from when I was lighting the burners (it took a minute or so for propane to get to stove/oven, as they had not been lit for many months. Today, I entered trailer and could still smell gas, so I turned off the refer and closed propane tank valve. NOTE: I did check, before running any propane items, using soapy water in a spray bottle, the lines that connect tanks to diverter valve. No leaks at these rubber lines. Propane detector alarm did NOT activate. Thoughts on where this gas smell can be coming from? BTW...it does not smell like rotten eggs (read that propane can smell like this)...to me, it smells like propane gas. I guess I could spray soapy water on ALL line connections inside trailer....stove and furnace. Furnace is installed under a couch. Could it be refer....since it didn't get colder than when running on 120V? Maybe refer is not getting all the propane (due to a leak) it needs to work at optimum level while on propane? Where to start? Other methods beside soapy water? Thanks!

RE: Adding Fans to Rear of RV Absorption Refer - How to Wire?

I decided to add two fans at the top refer vent. They are thermostatically controlled as well as manual override. 3 amp inline fuse. It is currently 89F in the shade. The two added fans have turned on to level 3/6 (auto mode). This means fans are turning at half speed. The hotter it gets, the faster the fans will spin. I can feel the warm air exiting the refer vent cover....good sign! The single OEM fan has yet to turn on. If trailer/refer were in the direct sun, it would have turned on by now (last testing I did). I'll do some testing over the next several days and see what I find. It's supposed to cool off into the low 70s by Saturday, so testing in the heat may not happen until next summer. https://i.imgur.com/h1u2TVel.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4iNdH8bl.jpg

RE: Adding Fans to Rear of RV Absorption Refer - How to Wire?

UPDATE: 1. Found that my thermistor adjustment slide clip (inside refer) was in the UP (colder) position. However, the actual temp prob was in the middle of the plastic slide. I had moved it up, but the probe stayed put. It appears that there was no clack in the wire to allow it to slide up with the plastic slide clip. I checked the wire inside access vent and sure enough the excess wire had been zip tied together to keep things nice and tidy. I removed zip ties and pulled a few inches of slack inside refer. I also tape the wire nd of the probe so it would not slide on plastic slider and the used a clip to hold slide in place. I moved the probe to the top of the fins. 2. I removed roof top refer vent. I wanted to inspect what was inside above refer. I did find that there is a cavity at the very top of refer between refer and roof. This cavity is approx. 24" wide by 8" tall x 8" deep. I will leave cavity alone for now and test my refer with new probe position. If needed, I can fabricate a piece of sheet metal flashing to remove cavity from upward flow of air. Not sure if I can make it fit by just cutting back wire mesh. 3. Fans....How well with they sucking air up and out of vent if mounted above wire mesh? I don't want to cut into the wire mesh to mount them just underneath wire mesh if fans will work as well above mesh. I wonder if these fans will work well enough to make up for the cavity above refer? I guess only testing will tell. Thoughts? https://i.imgur.com/BBs6IBml.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Y6ojr9Ol.jpg

RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

That's weird,I have a 1994 ford f350 drw and a 9.6 Lance and a Reese 18" extension works perfect..That S&S must be longer than 9.5.. Do you have a rear camper bumper? From his receiver collar to edge of camper bumper is 29". His steel rear camper bumper is 11" deep. If he didn't have the bumper, an 18" extension would work.

RE: Adding Fans to Rear of RV Absorption Refer - How to Wire?

Thanks John. I added pics. Is there a reason you placed thermal switch at bottom of refer on absorber pipes instead of up top closer to fan on the upper tubes? I thought the upper areas were the hottest? Since I have the OEM fan which is about 1'-2' below yours, which is at roof vent, I will add the two fans down below just inside the bottom vent just below absorber tubes, horizontally mounted, pointing upwards. These fans (similar to Titan 90mm fans) have a wire probe as a thermostat. Where should this probe be mounted? The fans have a wired remote that controls speed and also has auto/manual modes so speed can be reduced if fans are working too good and refer temps are too low. I live and camp in SoCal (where it can get HOT and mostly camp in warm areas, so having refer temps too low may be a pipe dream, but definitely welcomed!! Since with the above mentioned wiring method, what would be the efficiency/advantage or disadvantage of having two lower fans NOT in thermostat synch with the solo upper fan?

RE: Adding Fans to Rear of RV Absorption Refer - How to Wire?

Yes, thank you all for the assistance. I added a few pics, perhaps these are easier to read. What I'd like to do is, wire all three off of the one thermostat and also have a manual option. Ex. A toggle switch with Auto-Off-manual. Can the wires to the OEM fan and T-stat all be accessed at bottom? It appears I need to access the wire (part 3) from the thermal fuse (part U) to fan, but I believe that wire is near top of refer making access difficult. It would make wiring all this much easier if I could access at bottom of refer. If not able to access those wires, I would then need to determine "where" to the mount t-stat sensor wire (it is not thermal fuse as is OEM) from new two fans? Fans would be mounted pulling fresh in from lower vent and pushing air UP towards roof vent. Is the T-stat wire taped to lower absorber tubes, to absorber vessel, or ? RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

Pontoon boat is 3500# with approx. 350# of TW. We decided on the Torklift Super Hitch and Super Truss 36". The reason we considered the 36" extension on a 2" receiver, is because that was what was on the previous owner's truck which had this camper on it. It was not a Super Hitch. He towed a 2 horse trailer for many years. I suspected it may not be correct because of the distance between the hitch ball and the fulcrum point ..... Not knowing what was correct and safe, is why I came to this site to ask. YES, Grit Dog, I will be helping my friend with this project. Not sure why you thought I shouldn't? Now, to see how many holes line up between old hitch and new hitch. Old has 3 bolts each side and new has 5. Thanks for the assistance! Preparing to sharpen some 1/2" bits!
