RE: heat and Li batteries.

PT says, “ For the record I do recommend LiFePO4 batteries when the climate allows it.
In future, please go and twist some one else's words. BKTDA”
FWIW, I opted to delete my response in the broader interest of Group cohesiveness :)

RE: heat and Li batteries.

Ole ‘tuna, does it ever get tiring stirring that pot?
I think Li are fine for folks who live in extremely moderate conditions. But they need to have proper care.
Most Li are not robust by nature. The end user needs to take care of how they are charged and battery management systems have evolved to do so.
No amount of care can prevent calendar aging of Li batteries.
In Li's current state of the art only one chemistry would work for my particular needs. That is Lithium Titinate.
Here is some information on them.:Z
https://www.importel.com/product/pwr-s5/xs-power-titan8-series-lithium-titanate-oxide-battery-12v-5000w-1000-ca
Unfortunately they are pretty much extremely highly priced.
As spoken by PT, a true ‘expert’ that doesn’t own a LFP (with a checkered history of endlessly disparaging them…), but ‘knows’ whats best for you while committing huge amounts of time promoting his favorite Purple Unicorns like SiO2 and discarded ‘telecom jars’ (whatever those are??), as well as ‘assuming’ the needs of the broader audience requires devices fully operable in minus 40 degree temperatures where he claims to reside and in places like Mars…

RE: Install 300 AH Lipo

With the potential for LiPo battery fires I don’t think I’d want it under the bed.
Another unsupportable lithium ‘wives tale’ (of many previous launched here) attempts to grow legs…With LiFePo4 Lithium chemistry the chances of a fire are nary close to zero, in fact they are not even considered hazardous material…See section 3:
https://www.liteplan.com/images/products/Batteries/LiFePO4/LP_-_MSDS_-_LiFePO4.pdf
For comparison only, here’s for SiO2:

RE: heat and Li batteries.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries are lithium ion batteries. Same thing. The iron and phosphate are in the form of ions.
Thanks for informing us that all lithium ion batteries are the same thing…

RE: switching to two 6 volt batteries?

10min to add water a couple times per year...ehhh. Should be checking on connections etc anyway.
Never spilled acid or had fumes do any damage, so...ehhh.
Fumes will corrode things when the batteries gas when charging.
It's more like 30+ minutes to check batter fluid level in an AF camper.
You can't get access to the inner battery, even though they are on a useless sliding tray that most AF owners despise.
The tray only slides half way out.
The only time I was able to check the water was when I took the camper off the truck for the winter and was able to disconnect the batteries and removed them to check fluid.
Checking water when the camper was on the truck was an impossible feat because getting them out required the use of a ladder. Carrying them down a ladder isn't fun (or safe)
I had the same tight battery box… My solution for watering the two GC’s was to remove the tray and add an automatic watering system - worked perfectly for 15 years :)
https://www.amazon.com/Flow-Rite-RV2000-Pro-Fill-Battery-Kit/dp/B001FCAXT0/ref=sr_1_9?crid=377F0J7WNJ1XS&keywords=flo+rite+battery+watering+system&qid=1689773861&sprefix=Flo+rite+%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-9
Also, for the sake of testing for corrosive off gassing, I’m not saying they don’t off-gas, but for ad hoc testing purposes I’d flattened out and taped a strip of silver solder inside the roof of the vented battery box as a improvised sorta coal miner’s canary idea, but over the years I never saw any signs of silver discoloration whatsoever, or on the terminals! - this may be due to the compartment door’s venting…
At least that was my own experience, however I’ve since switched to LiFePo4 lithium and have been extremely pleased…

RE: heat and Li batteries.

I believe this article would be less misleading were your heading to read ‘EV batteries and hot weather’… In it’s present form one might conclude it’s content applies to Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry (LiFePo4) commonly used as RV House batteries…
Also after so many of your previous seemingly uninformed, diversionary LFP post, one might also conclude that this was intentional…(legacy matters…)

EPever Solar Charge Controller

A friend has a EPever Tracer 100 amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller model 10415AN…
Problem is that try as we might when trying to change a given charge program parameter on the Advanced user menu, it will not hold any revised program changes…
Thanks in advance,

RE: Victron MPPT 150/100 output current

My WAG is that if your not getting a controller error code I’d then focus on either the breaker or possibly a temperature related intermittent short circuit in one of the panels rather than a faulty controller…
FWIW, Victron trains and primarily relies upon it’s vendors to provide customer technical advice - this is why when purchasing Victron it’s best to choose a reputable and customer oriented vendor…

RE: Will a truck camper fit over the 5er rails in the truck bed?

Well be careful with manufacturers claimed weights as they’ve figured out that low weights sell campers - lol..Manufacturer’s weights don’t include options, batteries, water weight (and 6gal in water heater - 8.33# per/gal), LPG, and occasionally even slide-outs and jacks are sometimes called ‘options’…Also passengers, tie-down equip, fuel, 4x4, diesel engines, personal items and trailer tongue weight (and extensions if used) subtract from maximum available GVWR…
However, FWIW, I carried a large single slide Eagle Cap on a Ram 3500, 4x4, diesel, CC, LB without any issues…
Good Luck :)

RE: Will a truck camper fit over the 5er rails in the truck bed?

Some campers (fully loaded for bear) may be heavier than your 5er’s pin-weight, particularly if it has a slide-out, so review your rear tire’s load capacity…

RE: switching to two 6 volt batteries?

As a cost performance quotient definitely go with the GC’s because they are more robust, meaning routinely capable of a somewhat greater DOD (depth of discharge) without adversely affecting longevity as used in golf carts, versus a 50% DOD with your present battery …They are about 3/4” taller to top of battery post than your present battery…

RE: Truck camper and towing

Well, FWIW with camper aboard, I just towed our trailer using a new 2.5”, 41” - 48” Reese (Draw-Tite) extension which weighs a whopping 56# even without the ball hitch…I’d previously added a Curt commercial direct bolt on 2800# hitch which mounts just below the less robust 1800# OEM hitch…Before leaving, I measured the enclosed trailer’s tongue weight at about 525# (using a tongue scale) and used the 41” pin-to-pin length…I’d estimate the V nose off-road machine trailer weight to be at about 4500# and with added V nose cabinetry and such is admittedly a bit nose heavy…Our 200mi one way trip to the higher desert went smoothly..
